Creating a Harmonious World through Painting
For Markku Uitto, painting is an intuitive activity, a fast-paced process where quickly fading emotions are captured. Painting provides him with the freedom to rearrange past experiences and events into new positions and recapture them through visual memory. As he grows older, he becomes more interested in the inner world and its phenomena. With his artworks, he offers possibilities for aesthetic and emotional splashes. Colors and their interaction play a central role in his work.

Uitto has devoted his entire life to art and culture. He has worked in various roles at Yleisradio (Finnish Broadcasting Company), including film editor, cameraman, production designer, and teacher in design disciplines. In 1975, he founded the Yleisradio Art Club and led it for 7 years. Over the years, the club had different artists as instructors, such as Leena Luostarinen, Rafael Wardi, Juho Karjalainen, Henry Wuorila-Stenberg, Seppo Salmela, and others. Markku Uitto is a member of Espoo Art Association.

He also had a significant career as a communication expert, a developer of creative education, and held leadership positions in educational institutions. Uitto established the communication program at the Turku University of Applied Sciences (now Turku University of Applied Sciences) and served as the department head and director of education from 1992 to 1997. He also initiated the communication program at the current Metropolia University of Applied Sciences and worked as the department head and director of education from 1997 to 2001. He founded the Radio and Television Institute Arto and served as its principal for five years. He retired from his position as a project manager at Aalto University School of Business. For the past twelve years, he has been painting in his own studio-gallery in Olari, Espoo.

Colors offer him a means of conversation: “No one knows me as well as indigo, coral, and ochre,” he says.
